This is the first leg for me (Chris) after finishing the rugby season with Toronto Wolfpack. After devastatingly losing in a promotional play-off, we flew as a team back to England where Claire and the children had returned due to Claire’s work. I had four days at home before we flew with Thomas Cook from Manchester to Florida.
Claire was staying with a business associate for 5 days for work related duties in Sarasota and I was to spend to some time with children in and around Universal Studios for three days before hiring a car and driving across Florida to meet up with Claire. Rather than try to cram in every theme park, we decided to just book a 4 day pass to Universal Studios. We could get a deal on buy 2 days and get 2 free and the hotel we had booked was literally 5 minutes away. It seemed like the best move. In hindsight, we could probably have spread our wings a little more as we had pretty much covered the whole park and its attached sister-park, Adventure Island with Harry Potter World, in two days and the third day was just going over the best bits that we enjoyed. We had to pick up the rental car at midday on the 4th day so decided against going in for a few hours that last morning like we had planned to do.
After picking up the rental car at Orlando Airport, the children and I had a 3 hour drive to Sarasota to spend a night with Claire in the Wyndham Super 8 and before carrying on to Miami Airport and flying on to stage 2 – Mexico!
